My exchange journey at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, marks an exciting new chapter in my academic career. Shanghai, my hometown and a global economic hub, offers a vibrant multicultural atmosphere that perfectly complements Fudan’s renowned academic environment.
This exchange provides an opportunity to not only further my studies but also represent The University of Texas at Austin in a way that upholds the values of our community.
Arrival and Welcome
On August 29, 2024, Fudan University’s International Cooperation and Exchange Office welcomed 197 exchange students from 30 countries. As I walked through the tree-lined campus decorated with welcome banners, I felt a deep sense of pride and responsibility.
The university’s dedication to making our transition smooth was evident during the orientation at the American Studies Center building. We received essential information about campus resources, academic schedules and safety protocols, ensuring we were well-prepared to begin our studies.

Academic Pursuits
Fudan University’s open teaching style and focus on interdisciplinary research make it an ideal place for academic growth. I’m particularly excited about participating in research initiatives related to environmental economics and sustainable development.
The seminars at the Center for American Studies at Fudan will allow me to engage with scholars from diverse backgrounds, enriching my research on green finance and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing.
Exploring the Campus and Beyond
The campus itself is a blend of modern architecture and serene natural beauty. The Guanghua Twin Towers, a symbol of Fudan University, stand tall and majestic, reflecting the institution’s prestige and commitment to excellence. Walking around the campus, I can’t help but feel inspired by the history and academic achievements that these buildings represent.
Beyond academics, Shanghai offers numerous cultural experiences. The university encourages us to explore China’s rich heritage. I look forward to visiting various landmarks and immersing myself in the local culture.

A Global Perspective
Participating in this exchange program is about more than just gaining academic knowledge; it’s also about broadening my worldview and representing UT Austin with integrity. Interacting with fellow students from different countries and being exposed to diverse teaching methodologies will enhance my understanding of global economic issues.
My journey at Fudan University has just begun, and it promises to be a transformative experience. I am eager to delve deeper into my research, engage in cultural exchanges and represent both Fudan University and UT Austin as a Global Ambassador.
This opportunity is a stepping stone toward my future contributions to the field of economics, particularly in green finance and sustainable development.
What starts here truly changes the world, and I am proud to be a part of that change.
