No language. No money. No problem!

This week we’ve put together a list of UT study abroad programs that:

1) do not have a foreign language requirement, and

2) are cheaper than staying at UT for the semester or summer.

That’s right! You can actually save money by studying abroad! From Mexico City to Seoul, you could have the experience of a lifetime and return to UT Austin with money left in your pockets.

If you’re confused, relax. We’ll break down this enigma together. The 2014/15 average cost of attendance at UT for a Texas resident is roughly between $13,269-$15,181 per semester and $8,863-$10,138 per summer, and it’s even more for out-of-state students. Sorry out-of-staters (insert sad face emoticon here). These estimates include tuition, room & board, as well as “miscellaneous expenses” because we all have those each semester. These costs are estimates, so they can vary from case to case, especially if you like Starbucks every morning. So let’s keep these costs in mind as we go through the list:

  1. London: The U.S., U.K., and World Order Maymester $2,415
  2. Mexico City: NAFTA, Narcos, and Neoliberalism $4,600*
  3. Queretaro, Mexico: ITESM Queretaro Campus $9,381/$5,356 (Summer)
  4. Monterrey, Mexico: ITESM Monterrey Campus $9,564
  5. Guadalajara, Mexico: ITESM Guadalajara Campus $9,664
  6. Haifa, Israel: University of Haifa $10,803 (Spring)/$12,048 (Fall)
  7. Seoul, South Korea: Korea University $11,264
  8. Stockholm, Sweden: KTH Royal Institute of Technology $12,812
  9. Istanbul, Turkey: Bogazici University $13, 085
  10. Ifrane, Morocco: Al Akhawayn University $13, 356
*These prices are estimates from the UT International Office; subject to change depending on program length and semester.

So – check out what you spent last Spring or Fall semester and compare that bill these estimates, which include everything from your application fee to your insurance while abroad to your flight home. Click any of the program names to find out more about the program such as deadlines, dates, and potential courses you can take. We also have peer advising hours M-F 9am-5pm at the UT International Office located at 24th and Nueces, so come see us with your questions.

Everyone can study abroad. It’s possible. Come see us and we’ll find out how you can be a part of everyone.
