Spain: A Bundle of Arrows

A few people sit on a bench that overlooks a sandy beach.

In my experience, people underestimate Spain. We are under the impression that we must go to an unfamiliar place  like Moscow, Xi’an, Bengaluru, Istanbul or Addis Ababa to truly experience another culture. Because Spanish influence is strongly present in American culture, the novelty of Spain’s identity is overlooked. I must… read more

Discovering Copenhagen

Student in white top and blue jeans and a black bag smiles at the camera with a large blue and white painting behind them.

My journey in Copenhagen thus far has been unforgettable. In my “Sport, Society and the International Olympic Movement” class, I’ve had the opportunity to explore not just the history and impact of sports but also the rich culture of Denmark. A major theme in my class has been learning about… read more

Summer in Copenhagen

Still water during sunset is a dark, deep blue. The sky is turning from blue to cream to slightly pink as the sun sets behind an illuminating building and small house that sits on the waterfront.

Getting acclimated It took a while to get comfortable in Denmark because it was so different from what I experienced in the U.S. Firstly, I rented a bike for my commute to class and around the city. The biking culture in Denmark is intense. Everyone seemed to be a professional… read more

Beauty in Everything

An outdoor landscape featuring a variety of palm trees, mountains, and steep slopes. On the side of the image is a small living structure with lots of windows and a red tiled roof.

As I reflect on the past two and a half months that I’ve been in Europe, three words continue to pass through my mind: Life is beautiful. The life I’ve curated here is beyond what I ever imagined for myself. This may seem cheesy to admit, but after spending time… read more

Ending My Teenage Years in Seoul

I am very thankful to have spent the last parts of my teenage years in such a beautiful place: Seoul. Not only am I able to experience and have a better understanding of everyday Korean culture and lifestyles, but I have also been able to understand myself better.    Throughout… read more

Unspoken Rules and Making Friends

Korea is a high-context culture, which means people here communicate implicitly, unlike in the U.S. In Korea, there are a lot of different cultural norms, so foreigners entering this country may have difficulty adjusting, especially since Korea doesn’t explicitly mention these rules in their everyday lives. For example, going to… read more

“Sooo… what’s the next step after graduation?”

stamps

It’s down to three days until graduation, and for most of us peer advisors, study abroad has greatly impacted the plans we have after walking the stage. As a reminder, peer advisors are available Monday through Friday from 9-5 during the semester and 12-3 during the summer on a walk-in… read more
